Dear Parents,
I hope everyone is enjoying the great spring
weather. What a wonderful time of year it is! Students love seeing
the budding flowers and trees, but more importantly, they love being
able to go outside and play. We adults also like being able to get
outside.
This time of year is also budget time for our
church and school. The fiscal year runs from July 1 until June 30, so
financial plans are being made for the 2008-2009 fiscal season. This
can be a very stressful time just like budgeting at home can be a
stressful thing.
There currently are 71 schools in the Archdiocese
of Indianapolis. Sixty-six of these schools operate under a tuition
model and five schools, we being one, operate under a stewardship
model. After reviewing the funding structure of these schools, the
finance committee has recommended to Msgr. Knueven that St. Mary’s
become a tuition based school. At the April 22, 2008 parish council
meeting, Msgr. Knueven and the council discussed this issue. It was
decided that we will become a tuition school for the 2009-2010 school
year. This gives us the opportunity to have time to develop the
policies needed for such a change.
The finance committee has given the parish council
a recommended tuition rate to begin in 2009. The school commission
will be taking this recommendation under advisement. The school
commission will also be looking at tuition rates and policies of the
schools in the Batesville Deanery, as well as schools located in
adjacent counties. We appreciate your patience and will let you know
the policies and tuition rates as soon as possible. These policies
will also include guidelines for tuition assistance for those families
in need. Change is sometimes a difficult thing, but we hope to make
this a smooth transition for all. We hope all families will continue
to send their children to St. Mary’s School where we can provide them
with a Christ-centered education.
Thank you for your continued support of St. Mary’s
Parish and School. Together we will continue to provide our future
parish leaders a strong Catholic education.
God Bless you,
Mrs. Nancy Schroeder, Principal
Msgr.
Harold Knueven, Pastor
